National Hubs

transform school communities to National Hubs

National Hubs

Participants in the EU-GREW Summer School will serve as EU-GREW Ambassadors, acting as facilitators and multipliers of the EU-GREW project in their schools. The EU-GREW Ambassadors should play a key role in implementing National Hubs in their schools and communities. The National Hubs will operate during the current school year (October 2024 – September 2025). Innovative and impactful methods can be employed by instructors to bring Green Deal topics to life through in-class teaching, small school projects, or broader dissemination activities.

To assist you in your endeavors, the EU-GREW Team will utilize communication channels (e.g., Zoom Meetings and social media) and continue to offer resources and educational material (via the moodle platform https://seminars.eepek.gr ), as well as structured templates for effective reporting.

Note: Access to the Moodle platform is granted to EU Grew Ambassadors. If you want to join us and organize a national Hub activity in your school, contact us by e-mail .

Types of National Hub Activities

National Hub activities can be broadly categorized into two types:

  1. In-School Activities:

These activities occur within the school setting and involve direct engagement with students. School teachers and, possibly, invited experts will mainly guide and supervise these activities. Examples include:

   - Classroom teaching sessions (lesson plans, collaborative projects etc.).

   - Peer-to-peer learning initiatives (e.g., debates, discussion groups).

   - School-wide projects (including outdoor activities), involving environmental topics.

  1. Dissemination Activities:

Optional activities that extend the reach of EU-GREW beyond the school. These may include presentations in workshops or conferences, open days and others local community events, news articles and social media posts, etc.

Key Ideas for Implementing National Hubs

To maximize the impact of National Hubs, EU-GREW Ambassadors can consider the following ideas and approaches:

  • Local Context: Organise activities with respect to local and regional environmental challenges and opportunities.
  • Cross-Curricular approach: Collaborate across subjects, e.g., linking Green Deal topics to science, language, or art classes.
  • Experiential Learning: Use hands-on approaches like field training, debates, or volunteering activities.
  • Student-Led Initiatives: Assign to groups of students relevant projects or campaigns.
  • Collaboration with external Stakeholders: Involve municipalities, local organizations, NGOs, and businesses.
  • Utilise Digital Platforms: Share activities via digital platforms (e.g. e-Twinning) as well as blogs, social media etc.
  • Joint Projects: Collaborate with other schools (e.g. of fellow EU-GREW Ambassadors) via digital school platforms (e.g. e-Twinning) or in the course of existing collaborations.
  • Innovative teaching: New teaching approaches such as gamification (e.g. challenges and competitions) and robotics/sensor programming, can be used to increase student motivation and active participation.

Reporting National Hub Activities

To ensure proper documentation and evaluation, all National Hub activities should be reported using the provided templates (provided as annexes to this document). The appropriate annexes to use depend on the type of activity:

  1. For In-School activities (e.g., teaching, presentations in school), you should use
  • Annex 1 - EU-GREW National Hub Report Form: To describe the event, including methodologies used and outcomes.
  • Annex 3 - EU-GREW Activity Evaluation Form: To collect feedback from participants to evaluate the activity (see also Notes on Reporting below).
  • Annex 4 - EU-GREW Event Participant List Template: To provide evidence on the participants involved (total number of students, teachers, and stakeholders).
  1. For Dissemination Activities, beyond your school, you should use
    • Annex 2: EU-GREW Dissemination Activity Report Template: Records details of the activity, audience reached, and promotional efforts.
    • Optional Annexes (if applicable):
      • Annex 3: If participant feedback is collected.
      • Annex 4: If participant attendance needs documentation.

Submission Guidelines

Timing:

  • Submit Annex 1 within 30 days of an in-school activity, along with Annexes 3 and 4.
  • Submit Annex 2 within 30 days of a dissemination activity, optionally including Annexes 3 and 4, as applicable.

Supporting Evidence:

  • Attach relevant materials (e.g., photos, lesson plans, media links).

Notes on Reporting

You can modify and adapt templates in annexes as needed for specific activities while maintaining essential details (the annexes provided in this file are editable).

Use Annex 3 to gather insights for future improvements. Ideally, create a google form, based on Annex 3 and have participants to fill-in and submit anonymously their evaluation form. Emailing to your EU-GREW contact the answers in Excel format is more than welcome!

Annex 4 is used for providing evidence of participation in the activity you organize. Note that in the case of students no names or signatures are required in the participants list (just write the number of students).

Ask for support! In case that you need further clarifications, do not hesitate to ask for support and discuss any ideas or problems with your EU-GREW Contact (see above) or fellow EU-GREW Ambassadors.
